Sustainability
Solar collectors, LED lighting, and heat and cold storage
The installation of solar collectors on the roof of the PHIL marked the introduction of sustainability in our organization back in 2010. Since then, we have not been idle and continue to invest heavily in the sustainability of our buildings. In collaboration with the municipality, we made the PHIL more sustainable in 2023 by improving the insulation of the roof, façades, and windows, and installing underground heat and cold storage.
There is a shift from conventional to dynamic LED lighting, and all halogen theater lamps will be replaced with more energy-efficient LED variants.
Haarlem climate-neutral 2030
Corporate social responsibility means that we, as an organization, want to contribute to improving larger societal issues such as climate change, air pollution, labor conditions, and aging. Our goal is to actively participate in achieving the ambitions outlined in the "Haarlem Climate Neutral 2030" plan and to interpret this in our own way.
Fewer trucks in the city
Not only in the cultural field but also in our operations, we are seeking collaboration with other cultural institutions in Haarlem. A fine example of this is the framework agreement with HEINEKEN Horeca, which we signed together with Slachthuis Haarlem, Patronaat, Brasserie van Beinum, and Caprera. Thanks to this collaboration, our five locations are guaranteed favorable purchasing prices for the next six years, and we become a bit greener as fewer trucks are needed for deliveries.
Gold Green Key certificate
Green Key is the international quality label for sustainable businesses in the recreation and leisure industry and the corporate market. Since 2016, we have been certified Green Key Gold, which means that we consider whether each step can also be sustainable. These can be small, visible measures, but we mainly make significant strides with less visible measures. Our ongoing efforts are rewarded, as we have once again achieved the Golden certification this year.
