Finding it difficult to prepare your class for a visit to the theater? We can help with that too. Many theater companies develop educational materials for their performances that can be used effectively as preparatory materials in the classroom. We have also established a number of rules of conduct for your visit. You can find these under the heading 'Rules of conduct for performances'.
Rules for attending performances
Visiting a performance with your class? Then we have a number of rules. We ask you to go through these rules with the students before the performance.
For students
- Think of the actors: The actors are performing live on stage and need to be able to concentrate on their performance. Keep conversations with classmates or comments about the performance until after the show and remain in your seat during the performance.
- Instructions from the staff of Stadsschouwburg Haarlem must always be followed. Staff are authorized to refuse entry or end a visit early.
- Coats and bags must be left at the cloakroom.
- Eating and drinking are not permitted in the theater.
- Mobile phones must be switched off before the performance.
- Toilet visits only before the performance begins or during the interval.
- Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.
For teachers
- Preparation. We expect the theater visit to be prepared in class and that the rules are discussed with the group. The education officer of the theater or the company can provide support. For more information about educational programs with performances, you can contact us at [email protected].
- Supervisors. We expect one supervisor for every 15 students and that they intervene if the rules are not followed in our theater. Supervisors sit among the students so they can intervene if necessary.
- Latecomers cannot always be admitted to the performance. It also often becomes very disruptive when students go to the toilet during the performance. Make sure the group arrives at least a quarter of an hour before the start.
