Jan Krol Foyer
A spot high up in the tower
The Jan Krol Foyer, also known as the Toren Foyer, is located on the top floor of the Stadsschouwburg and borders the second balcony. This intimate, atmospheric space exudes a special charm. On the walls, you will find a colorful portrait gallery by photographer Fjodor Buis, who has made an expressive portrait series for us of famous Haarlem actors, actresses, and directors. It is a place where art, history, and a calm, elegant atmosphere come together.
Portrait Gallery of Famous Icons from Haarlem
Since 2023, photographer Fjodor C. Buis, himself from Haarlem, has captured prominent theater makers with Haarlem roots in a unique portrait series. He portrays actors, directors, and dancers on the stage of the Stadsschouwburg, where many of them began their careers or have often performed. The portraits, taken under theater lights, show these artists posing in a cloud of red, detached from the background. Visitors can now gain a new, theatrical perspective on the Haarlem theater scene. Capacity and Space
The intimate Jan Krol Foyer, located next to the second balcony, has a charming audience circulation area that extends around the theater hall, just like the two floors below. The foyer features a small bar, which is exclusively used for private gatherings (up to about 80 people). The space, and especially the round tower, is ideal for an informal breakout session (up to 15 people) or even a sub-session. In that case, we can set up 38 chairs in theater arrangement or 18 chairs at a long table.
Since 2023, photographer Fjodor C. Buis, originally from Haarlem, has been putting distinctive theater makers with Haarlem roots in the spotlight for us. In a special portrait series, he captures actors, directors, and dancers on the stage of their beloved Stadsschouwburg, where these artists have performed or sometimes even started their careers.
