A modern adaptation of an ancient fairy tale leads to a fantastic children's opera.

Pinocchio begins, like every child, as a blank slate – in her case as an unwritten block of wood. But she has barely acquired legs before she abandons her father Geppetto and gets into trouble. Mrs. Cat, Mr. Fox and Mr. Rabbit become her friends. They have beautiful, captivating stories, but can she trust these friends?

She constantly has to choose: have fun and take it easy or be sensible and work hard? Serve up a nice story or tell the ugly truth? Pinocchio learns the advantages of lying from her friends, until she realizes she's being fooled herself. The libretto is by Simon van der Geest, a two-time Golden Griffel winner. The music is composed by Oene van Geel, winner of the Boy Edgar Prize. After two successful co-productions 'Reinaert de V.' and the 'Bremen Street Musicians', Duda Paiva Company passes the puppet stick to one of the great talents of this moment: Cat Smits. "Two years ago, Holland Opera performed the fantastic youth opera 'Reinaert de V.' at Christmas, freshly adapted by children's book author Simon van der Geest. (…) The modern, through-composed opera adaptation of the 'Bremen Town Musicians' is also catchy and accessible."

"Genuinely fun, beautiful and easy to follow. The magnificent puppets and satirical approach make the performance a delight for the ears and eyes."
