The myth of the inventor of the printing press
in a sparkling and rocking summer comedy!
Following last year's sold-out success 'The Brave Pharmacist' (Van der Pigge), Club Kenau presents another quintessentially Haarlem family performance outdoors this summer. For centuries, the myth has persisted that the art of printing was invented by Haarlemmer Laurens Janszoon Coster. Club Kenau takes you, for an entirely original version of this legend, to the medieval city Haarloheim in The Hero of Haarloheim.
De held van Haarloheim is a musical, brutal and humorous theatrical production about power, censorship, stories and resistance. The suffocatingly dull medieval city of Haarloheim struggles under the strict rule of regent Walewein and his sheriff. Books are forbidden, imagination is dangerous and stories are systematically erased. Under the guise of order and safety, he bans all literature – culminating in a large-scale book burning.
Walewein's sister Marianne refuses to accept this and devises a brave scheme to save the stories of Haarloheim. Meanwhile, a knight arrives with his squire, desperately searching for a true heroic deed. When Coster comes up with a revolutionary invention, there suddenly seems to be hope for the stories of Haarloheim.
De held van Haarloheim is an ode to literature, imagination and everyone who refuses to stay silent. Visit this sparkling summer comedy for young and old, full of shrill guitars, Gregorian chant, spoken word, knights, sheriffs and of course a hero.
