Nachtwacht
"Everything you hope to experience in the theater."
What if the night felt like a fever dream, a final, chaotic, beautiful and heartbreaking celebration, before everything fades to black? Following overwhelming responses, nominations and sold-out shows, Nachtwacht ventures into the night once more. Nachtwacht is no ordinary performance. It is a three-and-a-half hour farewell rave: theatre, dance and live music merge into a raw experience that sweeps you along with a family on the brink.
At the center stands 'Mr.': a man in the final months of his life. Around him: family, spirits, memories. As he prepares for the end, his children struggle with a new era. They balance between loyalty, desire, and the necessity to choose for themselves who they want to be.
With a sharp, loving gaze, 'Nightwatch' weaves humor and melancholy, treating the audience to a cathartic evening about aging, the Dutch care system, mortality, and the desperate attempt to break free from the roles imposed upon us. With a cast of 27 musicians, dancers, and actors, Nachtwacht is a grand production about the small, personal moments that are recognizable to us all. "Everything you hope to experience in the theater. You are immersed in one long death scene, in which dance, theater, and live music merge into a stunningly beautiful tableau of human finitude."
