Rotterdam's verbal violence about himself and the world around him.

Welcome to the revival, or your second chance to attend my fourth show. The reviews were glowing, but why use those to convince you? Trust your own intuition and let that do the work for you.

Patrick Laureij has been killing audiences across theaters for eight years with his relentless and hilarious stand-up.

His show is called 'Kintsugi.', a title that refers to the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold. This way, the cracks are not hidden or discarded but rather emphasized. Patrick won't be doing live pottery, that much is certain.

With every anecdote, he builds a fragile self-portrait of a man whose feelings are beyond his control, yet who manages to cope with them anyway. This culminates in a pointed and hilarious closing story about an encounter with an old friend from his criminal past. In it, he once again distils the wise lesson he keeps reminding himself of: do everything you can to avoid passing your pain as an adult on to your children. It's a beautiful, unexpectedly moving ending.

NRC ★★★★

Laureij is now 42, and it still doesn't take much to light his short fuse and trigger an old reflex: he hurts, so does the other person. While he remains unsteady in his search for safety and frictionless contact, his candid stand-up about that subject in Kintsugi is beautifully balanced.

de Volkskrant ★★★★

Kintsugi is a comedy canon that also fires tears. In his best show to date, Patrick Laureij takes an honest look at himself. His impulses, addictions and craving for connection are funny, but at the same time reveal a deep vulnerability.
