International, mesmerizing dance performance about the seduction of collective forces.
In 'Folk' an exuberant club night gradually transforms into an intoxicating ritual. As the atmosphere shifts, the dynamics change too: the group forms a collective identity that continuously moves, without anchor, in which individuals are either absorbed or repelled.
Eight international dancers bring to life the virtuoso choreography of Swan Award winner Dunja Jocić: her physical and technically refined style is rooted in classical ballet and breathes the raw energy of Balkan music and dance. In a succession of rituals, the group behavior in 'Folk' unfolds according to a different logic each time, constantly turning our ideas about what we see and feel upside down. Inspired by the folk traditions of former Yugoslavia and the turbulent nineties, Jocić lets us experience in this mesmerizing work how collective forces emerge and how seductive, confronting and terrifying they can be. "Fascinating to see how Jocić creates surrealist worlds with an ingenious mix of visuals, music, text and dance." (Theaterkrant on Dunja Jocić)
