In Rhythm & Flow a cast of 12 hip hop dancers, parkour athletes, a pole artist and musicians meet each other around the edges of the stage. What happens when the rhythms of these different disciplines merge or clash with each other?
Inspired by the phenomenon of murmurations, where flocks of birds move through the air, choreographer Marco Gerris allows the different disciplines to flow together and drift apart again.
A dancer challenges a musician, they drive the beat and feel the adrenaline pumping. They throw themselves wholeheartedly into each other's flow. Feel your heartbeat rise with spectacular choreography around a striking set, powermoves on the platforms and rousing live music. Feel the rhythm and surrender to the moment.
No rhythm, no flow
Music, hiphop, breaking, parkour and freestyling: each discipline has its own cadence. In a stream of energy, the performers are carried along by the beat and play with light and space. They move together and achieve perfect synergy, creating a new rhythm. The stage-filling tube construction forms a true playground for the twelve performers and two musicians. This breathtaking show keeps you on the edge of your seat continuously.
Rhythm & Flow back on tour
Artistic director Marco Gerris returns to the roots of ISH with this spectacular production, combining hiphop dance and urban sports. The impressive set by Ascon de Nijs – a gigantic tube construction – forms a true playground for the performers. Inspired by murmuration, a fluid and impressive performance emerges that was particularly well received by audiences. The production received rave reviews in the press and Rhythm & Flow won the Swan for Most Impressive Dance Production 2024. From the jury report: "The jury is continually surprised by the ways in which a choreographer questions what a dance production should or can be."
