The theater hit of 2025 is back, now with Wim Helsen in the role of guest actor!
We are eight years on from the legendary sitcom DE SITCOM, made and performed by a theater collective on the brink of financial ruin. Without a budget, just a real group of friends in a real coffee bar. A TV series that was so rarely authentic and radical, so hilarious and unsettling, so deeply human and tragic, that it immediately became a cult hit. To the bewilderment of its ever-growing fanbase, however, the series ended with a gaping open ending. Life had caught up with fiction mercilessly.
Eight years later, sitcoms are retro, a genre from a time when laughter came more naturally to us than tears. Nostalgia has become a business model and so producers bring the group back together. How have they fared? Can they continue together? DE SITCOM is a schizophrenic tragicomedy in which actors with tragic lives must perform those same lives, but as a joke. At the same time you also see the making of that sitcom, including the loves, the breakups, the distrust, the tentative attempts at reconciliation, the betrayal and the hope, always, that it might still work out. Always the hope for a happy ending.
