Richard III
The bitter revenge of an outsider: Shakespeare's greatest bastard.
Rick Paul van Mulligen portrays King Richard III: the biggest bastard Shakespeare ever wrote. Richard feels humiliated and excluded by society and, driven by rage, hatches a plan for revenge. He wants total power.
Like a master of manipulation, he subtly winds everyone around his finger. With beautiful words and charm, he deceives everyone; from the common people to his own family. He eliminates anyone who stands between him and power. Richard is willing to pay the highest price, but will he be able to hold on to power once he finally possesses it? Writer Peer Wittenbols creates a modern adaptation of the play for director Noël Fischer. "I read a quote from the thirties," says Fischer: "The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters. I see that reflected in Shakespeare's Richard III, but also in the lust for power, need for control, and narcissistic games of autocratic politicians."
