The Nether
Log in to your darkest fantasies.
'THE NETHER' is a chilling thriller that explores the boundaries between real and virtual reality. The story takes place in the near future, where through an advanced online network – The Nether – we can become completely immersed in digital worlds that are barely distinguishable from reality.
People assume alternative identities and live out fantasies that would be unspoken in real life. Without judgment, without consequences. When a young detective launches an investigation into this forward-thinking AI environment, she quickly begins to question just how innocent The Nether really is. Because if nothing is real, does morality even apply? As the line between fantasy and reality becomes increasingly blurred, the characters move along a sliding scale between self-control and derailment. Does virtually acting out our deepest desires bring us freedom? Or does this virtual world have unexpected downsides?
'THE NETHER' is a haunting production that doesn't tell us what to think, but makes us feel where our boundaries lie. Jeroen Spitzenberger and Gaite Jansen play the lead roles. The production is directed by Daria Bukvić, known for acclaimed productions such as 'The Almighty Sometimes' and 'ALETTA the musical'.
