A passion for the 21st century, to grieve together and celebrate life.

What would you do, knowing that you've just brought new life into an apparently dying world? That thought drives the mother in 'Oersoep' out of the comfort of her remote home and into a boundless world of possibilities: sex, drugs, love and loss.

Dubbelspel Series

This production is part of the Dubbelspel series with two performances in the Schuur and two in the Stadsschouwburg. Four evenings out for only € 94.  More info

What if we create a passion anew, like the 'Matthew Passion': as ritual, as a time machine that forces us to slow down, as a reflection on an event we are still in the midst of? 'Primordial Soup', based on the novel by Bregje Hofstede, is a story about motherhood, physicality and ecological crisis, about what it means to carry, bear and care for another being. You celebrate new life and the hope that comes with it, but simultaneously mourn the destruction of all living things on earth.

In the tradition of Bach's masterwork, the mother's story in 'Primordial Soup' is not explained, but experienced through music. With live music by the band K.O. Brass, the NITE ensemble creates a contemporary requiem and a celebration: a space to grieve together, to slow down and welcome life anew.
